New Generation sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) element, SU-820BCM
A SWRO element with improved reliability up to 98 bar (1430 psi) operation and excellent salt rejecting performance with 55,000 - 90,000 mg/l feed water.

BCS will be designed to operate at a feed pressure level 88 bar (1275 psi) in the 2nd stage, in order to overcome the high osmotic pressure of the higher concentrated brine.
Therefore, the BCS requires a RO element, which is tolerant against higher operating pressure, but at the same time has enough salt rejection capability at an elevated salt concentration.
Toray has developed the new element SU-820BCM, which has a pressure tolerance up to 98 bar (1430 psi) and a salt rejection of 99.7% at 58,000 mg/l feed water. Elements of this type have continuously operated at more than 88 bar (1275 psi) since May 1997, with a very stable performance.

High Pressure Hydraulic Turbocharger, HPT
There are several ways to boost the pressure to a level of 88 bar or 1275 psi. For new systems, the HPT is the most suitable device, since it uses the 2nd stage brine energy, to boost the 1st stage brine pressure to the 2nd stage feed pressure.
The function of the compact HPT is interstage pressure boost and energy recovery.
It features simple and reliable operation, compact design, no need for added electric power, and high energy recovery efficiency at low investment cost. HPT photo
